I Hate Blackberry

Is it just me or are there other men out there who, just like me, have a problem with the almost endless periods their wives (or women) spend chatting on their Blackberries? Anyone?

I have always given the Blackberry its due respect for what it stands for and what it has been able to achieve but I have never particularly liked it for a lot of objective reasons that I have listed here and here. From this disadvantaged point, I only need the slightest reason to nail its coffin and burry the device for good.

You see, my wife had her birthday sometime this month and she got a Blackberry as a gift. Of course she was excited about it but I had some reservations which I expressed to her. She replied, “oh, I wont go about adding just anybody’s BB pin (she has kept her word on this) but just a few friends”. Very reasonable, isn’t it? The problem is, I would gladly trade the few friends she has added for the whole world!

Right from when she wakes up, till she goes to bed, there is always that irritating and annoying chime that is always driving me to the wall. There is always a chat session going on.

Chime…Chime…Chime….arrrghhhh!!!

“So, who are you chatting with this time”
“Banke”
“But you have been chatting with her all day, and it is rather late”
“She wants to know who got evicted from Big Brother’s house”
“Please just switch off that thing and spare a little time for your family”
“Why should I switch it off, at least, when you are with your iPad, you rarely have time for anyone too”

I paused as the truth sank in. As usual, she has won the argument. How exactly can I explain to her that what I do on my iPad is “brain” work on how to make the world a better place and not some idle chat?! I became more resolved in my conviction to sabotage her phone.

I had threatened to sabotage the phone and, really, I can do it. Thankfully, she is not very tech savvy, so I could just tamper with the Internet configuration and she would be no wiser. I am really bidding my time, will strike at the right moment, leaving no trace of my dastardly act.

Hehehehehehe. (Wicked laugh)

I also have always had a hatred for blackberry. i admit though that i see the appeal of bbm and the internet service. I just don’t get why the owners have to be on it all the time, all day long.

I hate RIM’s Blackberry too, prefer Apple’s iPhone. iPhone’s Touch screen is better, they have more apps, I can do a lot with an iPhone like configuring my wireless router, remote desktop sharing, remote control, listen to BBC radio, watch al jazeera, read latest news, etc. To me a BB is just a social device (besides iPhone’s Facebook app is better than that of the BB it even has fb chat)

I have been avoiding the blackberry craze for more than a year now. Most of my friends use it, and i know it will be hard for me to reject their PIN requests if I do get it. I’ve also seen and detest how addictive it may become.

However, I’m getting ready to buy a new smartphone after 6 months with my N8, and more & more the Bold2 or 3 is looking like the better option for me. I prefer a slide-QWERTY android, but that means I’ll have to order it from abroad, and i don’t wanna have to deal with the issue of shipping, delivery, warranty, support, repairs. It’s much easier to get a BB.

About your wife, I support you desire to render the phone unusable. But beware, once the BB bug has struck someone, it’s very hard to be liberated. She’ll just ask another BB guru to fix it for her, or buy a new one herself!!

Coming from a N8, i can guarantee you would have issues with Bold 2 or 3. The N8 is a finer device with a generous screen estate.

LOL!!! My brother,  I have sworn never to buy a BB for my wife and already have a plan to temper with it if she buys one or gets one as a gift. It is a problem coping with frequent her chit chat on phones not to imagine adding the BB curse to it.

would you i have the same conversation with a cousin who wondered why i didn’t have a blackberry even when i could have had one bundled free with my mobile fone contract. the alerts for pretty much everything simply making me tear my hair out – twitter, sms, email (from many accounts), facebook (the major culprit), bb ping…ah…kilode! most peole just can’t tell when to stop and they have become the slave and their device the new lord! pity!
