Amazon Cloud Drive

Amazon today unveiled a new storage service called Amazon Cloud Drive that gives you 5 GB of free online storage space to store your documents, photos, music and other files securely in the cloud. All you need is a free Amazon.com account to upload your files which you can then access from anywhere using a web browser.

Amazon Cloud Drive is purely an online file storage solution and the only client that you can use to upload or download files from your Cloud Drive account is your web browser.

What is Amazon Cloud Drive?

Amazon Cloud Drive is your hard-drive in the cloud. Securely store your music, videos, photos, and documents online and access them from anywhere.

All you need is a web browser to upload, download and access your files from any computer. Back up your files to ensure that your music, photos and personal documents are available to you wherever you go.

  1. 5GB sounds nice. especially since most alternatives only offer 2GB free. however, i think only having a web interface is a mistake. Other services such as Dropbox are well integrated into the windows, mac and linux desktops and you can sync files and folders just by placing them in a folder. Even Ubuntuone cloud service, although well integrated into ubuntu as one might expect, also has a windows client in public beta right now. IMO it is easier to think of the cloud storage as an extension of your harddrive which you can easily sync files to by dropping them into a particular folder or marking that folder for syncing rather than using a browser to do the upload and download. Maybe Amazon is already working on desktop clients for this service, but i think it is a huge oversight for it to not already exist at product launch.

  2. Amazon offers a handy desktop client that will scan your hard drive for music related files and will automatically put them to Cloud Drive – you then listen to your music from anywhere using the browser itself without having to download anything to that computer.

However, i cant seem to find the link to this client
